Semua bahan padat akan berubah bentuk apabila diberi beban. Perubahan bentuk tergantung pada besar beban, unsur kimia maupun kondisi beban, bentuk benda uji, suhu, kecepatan pembebanan, dan sebagainya. Suatu kurva yang menghubungkan antara beban dan perubahan bentuk pada benda uji (deformasi) merupakan bagian utama dari studi tentang sifat mekanika dari bahan benda uji itu. Akan tetapi, biasanya pengujian itu agak berbeda bila bentuk geometrinya berbeda, walaupun bahannya sama. Oleh karena itu bentuk benda uji dibuatkan suatu standard yang sedemikian rupa sehingga kurva tegangan-tegangan diperoleh juga merupakan standard pula.

Mata Kuliah ini pasti ada di Teknik khususnya Mesin dan Sipil, saya sebagai mahasiswa mesin ada sebuah tugas yang mengharuskan browsing guna mencari spesimen yang lengkap baik itu ukuran dan jenisnya. Kali ini tensile test  atau bahasa indonesianya pengujian tarik akan menjadi fokus utama sesuai America Standart Testing Material. Berkat ada seoraang teman yagn berasal dari ITS sana berbagi ilmu dengan saya lewat bbm, nah akhirnya nemuin fale ini.
